The Faculty of Science, established in 1966, comprises six academic departments: Mathematics and Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biological Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Statistics and Operations Research.

The Faculty offers 15 undergraduate programs in Numerous subjects: Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Physics, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Geology, Desert Sciences, Marine Sciences, Statistics, and Applied Statistics. The Faculty extends its services to other colleges, viz. Faculty of Engineering, Centre for Medical Sciences, and Faculty of Education. In addition to the academic programs, the Faculty of Science supports its students’ cultural, artistic, social, and sports activities.

At the graduate level, the Faculty offers ten Master of Science programs, in addition to two recently established Ph.D. programs in Chemistry, and Mathematics. A doctoral program in Microbiology is currently in the process of evaluation.

The Faculty gives full support to research. Special units, such as the Electron Microscopy Unit, have been equipped with the state of the art instruments. The SAF Unit provides research workers with a wide variety of analytical facilities. More recently, two additional research units have been established: Radiation Safety and Biotechnology. Special plans are underway for the construction of such facilities as a new science annex building, an amphitheatre and, an exhibition hall.

An Information Technology Office has been set up to implement several proposals such as work flow automation, electronic archiving, and displaying of relevant messages and information by way of monitors distributed throughout various buildings within the Faculty
